Installing Sharepoint 2010 beta on 32 bit laptop!

Below are the steps which I used to create a vmware image of Sharepoint 2010 beta on my 32 bit laptop...

1. Ensure that the machine has Virtualization Technology enabled in BIOS. You can check this microsoft link "http://www.microsoft.com/windows/virtual-pc/support/configure-bios.aspx" on how to do this and to verify that your system supports it.

2. Download VMware player VMware Player for 32-bit and 64-bit Windows
Version 3.0.1 from http://www.vmware.com/products/player/

3. Download Windows Server 2008 R2 from http://www.microsoft.com/windowsserver2008/en/us/try-it.aspx, this link is for trial version. You can activate it if you have a key.

4. Create a virtual machine using windows server 2008 R2. You can get documentation for vmware on this link http://www.vmware.com/support/pubs/player_pubs.html

5. Download Sharepoint 2010 beta from http://sharepoint2010.microsoft.com/Pages/default.aspx

6. Run Sharepoint 2010 setup file and click "Install Software prerequisites". This will install required roles and files like IIS, etc. in windows server.

7. Once the prerequisites are installed, you can click on "Install Sharepoint Server".

8. You can choose standalone, this way you won't have to install SQL server seperately.

9. If everything works out correctly a sample site will be created.

Hope this post is helpful, questions\suggestions and comments are welcome.

For your listening pleasure!!
